Can't view forum threads

I have a forum working on a test site (v7 successfully upgraded from v6). I have a newly installed v7 site to which I want to move the forum. I have imported the _forums and _posts database tables from the working site, and the Forums list on the new site appears as it should. However, when I try to view a forum, I get the message "No threads have been started". The threads are all there in the database, and all the relevant _ids (forum, thread, post) are as in the test db. But I'm clearly missing something. I've searched for previous posts on this without success. Any help would be much appreciated.
