Re: V9 core files/package

For normal user, they would probably take the one on distribution listed on this site.

I'll do that, thank you.

Re: Multi-site with different versions Ok thanks for pointing that out. I guess I'll upgrade to v9 on the two sites separately first to avoid that mismatch.

Re: Multi-site with different versions Everything is compatible in the users table EXCEPT

user_level for Super Admin, Admin, Member is stored as 103,102,101 in v8 And -103,-102,-101 in 9.

If you want to share the same table with the values of either, you need to take note of this.

For login wise, look out for the salt hash encryption is the same sha256 is used on both.

Re: V9 core files/package Most developer would take the github one because they can fork and deploy the code into the server using git. It contains more fixes anyway.

For normal user, they would probably take the one on distribution listed on this site.

Re: Multi-site with different versions My intention in multi-site of two sites is to use the same user table only, but otherwise will have completely different content, as in separate articles, photo gallery, forums, separate databases. Site 2 will use site 1's user table. Functionally, it would be so that users don't have to login twice to go between the two sites. But otherwise the content of each site is its own. Would that be problematic if v8 and v9 sites use the same user table in a multi-site config? Or is separarely upgrading each to v9, and then doing multi-site the only safe way to do it?

Re: V9 core files/package Thank you, that makes sense. So for those of us who do not inside the code should stay with the latest public release. Correct?

Re: V9 core files/package Github is a file repository where we put our source code there. All core developers or developers who wishes to contribute to extending or improvise the codes can pull to their HDD and open up editor to make tweaks on the files and push it back in for changes. So the next user will get the change immediately when he pulls it. This makes collaborating simple as everyone uses 1 single copy of source code.

The one in this site is verified working condition (as of the date it was being compiled) to be distributed here or on Sourceforge by the Project Manager himself to the public hence we support based on that code. The one in Github is the real time (keep changing) to this date , containing further changes than the one on this site.

On Github you will find 2 branches of v9 -

Andromeda is the code for 9.03.xx (current public release)
Subsequent changes only allow for bug fixes and code optimisation.

Babylon is 9.10.xx, (next major release candidate) this one will contain all rocket science features improvements but also condsidered buggy. Because I will need real time use of tracking down all potential bugs, this site is using Babylon.

Re: Multi-site with different versions Care to explain your multi-site environment in a bit specific?

Is it where 2 site shares the same database?

If yes, most of the infusions on 9 can’t be used unless you port the v8 ones to the 9. The 9 forum uses different constants as well like DB_FORUM_POSTS or THREADS, etc so they likely won’t be recognised on the 8 level as well. Database name and structure wise also have quite a wide difference, since v8 uses the v7 ones.

Better don’t merge, you will be spending most of your time debugging instead of working on new content.

The only compatibility I see here is current v9.03 to v9.10 since we are working hand in hand with each other, content wise.

Re: Multi-site with different versions Will doing multi-site between v9 and v8 work without any glitches or special tweaking needed? I have two separate web site instances on v8.00.21 that I want to multi-site, and want to step up to v9 since it seems more of the development and infusion/theme etc., efforts target v9. But I want to do one site at a time after I multi-site them. Does anyone see any problem with this?

Re: V9 core files/package I have a question that may sound dumb, but please bear with me. Many of you programmers/developers of PHP-F refer to Github. I haven't paid much attention to it, but I'm now trying to corral my thoughts on attempting upgrade from v8.00.21 to the latest v9 (9.03.00?) on one site, and v7.02.07 to v9 on another. Either upgrade or do a clean install. My question is, what are the files in, say, https://github.com/php-fusion/PHP-Fusion for, from my standpoint of being a non-programmer and just an end user of PHP-F, as related to a v9 download from this site as a zip package?

Re: Installation questions The "include as file" code is beyond my knowledge I'm afraid.
Anyway, thanks!

Re: Installation questions Hi in regards with your questions.

1) In "system admin> folder permissions" I have the config.php file writeable (644) in red. Should I change this in cpanel?
Config should be 444 if possible as long as system can read it, it should be fine. We only need 777, 755 depending on your server config to write config during install.

2) What version of php should I install for v9.03, now I have PHP v7.3.6?
Anything above version 7 is fine.

4) How "dangerous" is it to run "allow PHP execution" in v9.03? I need this option to insert external content.
If you allow PHP Execution, all the scripts can be imbued within SQL which can be parsed during view. The better practice here is to upload a file via FTP to your server and then include as file in panels.

Re: Installation questions I have a few questions after installing fusion v9.03:
1) In "system admin> folder permissions" I have the config.php file writeable (644) in red. Should I change this in cpanel?
2) What version of php should I install for v9.03, now I have PHP v7.3.6?
3) After installing latest video infusion, the infusion appears in "system admin> infusions" infused, but I see this infusion anywhere else? Accessing the infusion in the website menus, I get an error (only in bootstrap theme).
4) How "dangerous" is it to run "allow PHP execution" in v9.03? I need this option to insert external content.
Thanks!
