It slipped by us.
We are now working to support Arabic and Cyrillic charsets when registering.

Does this also cover the Danish letters æ, ø, å, Æ, Ø, Å ?
Or does it need another patch?

All of the above should also be accepted, "æøåÆØÅ", See Git note, "Allow Latin,Arabic,Cyrillic,Chinese,Hebrew usernames." Latin should cover most of Scandinavia and then some.
This is a long-overdue update. One strong reason to adapt to UTF-8 was to allow country/region specific usernames.

We are waiting for PHP 8 release before we push next version so we can adjust for any issues if there are any, it is due any day now.

Can the Arabic letters be shown in the generated avatar ?
It is shown as a question mark .

I edited the UserFieldsInput.inc file ,
in /.../includes/classes/PHPFusion
and everything is working fine the usernames can be registered easily.
